Travel agency Tripsta has released its updated ranking of the most popular destinations for the winter holidays 2025. According to analytics, Thailand has become the top overseas destination for Russian tourists, leading in bookings for New Year and Christmas.
Why Thailand is #1 for Winter 2025?
Despite rising prices, Thailand remains the most in-demand destination due to:
- Visa-free regime for Russian citizens (up to 30 days);
- Warm climate in January–February (average +30 °C);
- Well-developed tourism infrastructure — from budget hotels to luxury villas;
- High service standards and safety;
- Plenty of direct and connecting flights from Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities.
Flight Prices on the Rise
Tripsta analysts report that airfare to Thailand has increased by an average of 24% compared to winter 2024. Key reasons include:
- Higher demand for tropical destinations;
- Limited seats on charter flights;
- Rising fuel surcharges and currency fluctuations.
Average round-trip price from Moscow ranges from 58,000 to 85,000 RUB, depending on dates and airline.
Top 3 Overseas Destinations for Russians (Winter 2025)
- Thailand — Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi;
- Bulgaria — regaining popularity due to affordability and proximity (Sofia, Black Sea coast);
- UAE — Dubai and Abu Dhabi, especially for shopping and family vacations.
Popular Domestic Destinations
Among domestic trips, Saint Petersburg leads, especially during New Year. The city attracts visitors with:
- New Year festivals and light displays;
- Cultural events (theatres, Hermitage, ballet);
- Attractive tour packages and special rail fares.
Second place goes to Sochi and Krasnaya Polyana, popular with ski and snowboard enthusiasts.
According to Rostourism, over 60% of Russians prefer international travel during the 2025 winter season, with Thailand remaining the absolute favorite.
