In 2025, Miss International Queen — the world's largest international beauty pageant for transgender women — celebrates its 20th anniversary as a symbol of inclusion, courage, and cultural progress. The annual event takes place at the legendary Tiffany's Show in Pattaya, but today it is no longer just entertainment — it is a global movement for transgender rights.
According to the Miss International Queen Organization, the 2025 final will feature 32 contestants from 22 countries, including the USA, Brazil, Philippines, France, Thailand, South Africa, and Canada. All are national titleholders and LGBTQ+ activists.
From Show to Rights and Respect
If in the 2000s the pageant was seen mainly as entertainment, today it plays a vital social role:
- Education: 'Queen for a Cause' program teaches human rights, psychology, public speaking;
- Health: partnership with Thailand's Ministry of Public Health — free hormone therapy and HIV/AIDS counseling;
- Career: winners get contracts in fashion, film, advertising, and even politics;
- Legal support: help with document changes and anti-discrimination cases.
Thailand: A Leader in Tolerance?
Thailand has long been known as one of the most LGBTQ+-friendly countries, but official recognition remains limited:
- Gender markers: gender recognition bill under review since 2023;
- Marriage: same-sex marriage expected to be legalized by 2026;
- Employment: growing number of trans people in civil service, education, healthcare;
- Medicine: access to gender-affirming care is among the most affordable in Asia.
Who Is Competing in 2025?
Finalists represent diverse cultures and stories:
- Brazil: 4 contestants — country with one of the most active LGBTQ+ movements;
- Philippines: traditionally strong presence — culture of respect for bakla;
- Thailand: host country — contender from Pattaya;
- Europe: contestants from France, Germany, Spain — focused on political inclusion.
Judging Panel & Values
In 2025, the jury includes:
- UN LGBTQ+ rights activists;
- Thai entertainment stars;
- WHO and UNESCO representatives;
- Former Miss International Queen titleholders.
Contestants are judged not only on appearance, but also on intelligence, charisma, social activism, and readiness to be a community voice.
Outlook 2025–2030
Expected:
- Legalization of same-sex marriage and legal gender recognition in Thailand;
- Development of a global alumni network as mentors and leaders;
- International recognition of Miss International Queen as a cultural and legal institution;
- Growth in the number of transgender individuals in politics, business, and arts worldwide.
"We’re not asking permission to be ourselves. We’re demanding the right to be respected," said 2024 winner Lana Ray (Thailand). "Miss International Queen is not a title. It’s responsibility."
