In 2025, vegetables and fruits in Thailand remain affordable due to strong harvests. Pork and chicken prices rise in February during Lunar New Year.

In 2025, consumers in Thailand continue to see stable prices for vegetables and fruits, while pork and chicken are temporarily rising in February due to the Chinese New Year celebrations, which fall on January 29, 2025. This was announced by Thailand’s Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

Vegetables & Fruits: Strong Harvest, Low Prices

Thanks to favorable weather in key farming provinces — Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nakhon Sawan, and Ratchaburi — the 2024–2025 season has been successful. Vegetable yields exceeded forecasts by 12–15%, leading to market oversupply.

According to the National Statistical Office (NSO), average retail prices in Jan–Feb 2025:

  • Tomatoes — 38 THB/kg (10% cheaper than 2023);
  • Chili peppers — 65 THB/kg (stable);
  • Cucumbers — 24 THB/kg;
  • Mangoes (local) — from 40 THB/kg;
  • Mangosteen — 60–70 THB/kg (season starts in February).

Farm-fresh produce promotions are active in Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket — especially popular among tourists and expats.

Meat Price Hike: Seasonal Demand Surge

As in previous years, ahead of the Chinese New Year (Jan 29, 2025) and the Chak Phra Phlom Festival (Farmers’ Day, Feb 6), a temporary price increase for meat is expected:

  • Pork — up 10–14% (from 160 to 180 THB/kg in supermarkets);
  • Chicken — up 8–10% (from 85 to 95 THB/kg);
  • Eggs — up 5%, due to higher demand for festive dishes.

The Ministry of Agriculture attributes this to increased demand in restaurants, markets, and households, especially among the Chinese diaspora and tourists from China and CIS countries.

However, as Deputy Minister Arun Chaimanee emphasized: "This is a short-term spike. By early March, prices will return to normal."

Imports & Price Controls

To curb price hikes, Thailand has increased imports of frozen chicken from Brazil and pork from Vietnam. This helps offset domestic shortages during peak periods.

In addition, the Thai Chamber of Commerce and retailers Big C, Tesco Lotus, and Central launched a joint "Stable Prices" program — fixed rates on 30 essential items until end-March 2025.

Outlook for 2025

NSO forecasts a 1.2–1.5% rise in food prices for 2025 — within moderate inflation. This means:

  • Vegetables and fruits will remain affordable;
  • Meat prices will fluctuate seasonally but stay reasonable;
  • The government will continue monitoring and intervening during sharp spikes.

Tips for Consumers

  • Buy produce at local markets — cheaper than supermarkets.
  • In February, stock up on meat early in the month, before prices peak.
  • Watch for deals at Big C and Tesco — discounts up to 30% on meat and fruit.
  • Use apps like Priceza or Shopee Food to compare prices.

2025 in Thailand starts with food price stability. Good harvests, smart import policies, and price controls help maintain balance between affordability and quality — for locals and millions of tourists alike.
