In 2025, Pattaya continues developing unique city festivals, blending romance, active lifestyles, and environmental responsibility. While in the past, attention was drawn to records for the sake of records — like the 2011 kissing marathon — today the focus has shifted to inclusion, sustainability, and culture.
Valentine’s Day 2025: More Than Just Kisses
In the lead-up to February 14, 2025, Pattaya will host a series of events under the name "Pattaya Love Week". Organized by the city administration and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the event has moved away from extreme kissing formats in favor of deeper initiatives:
- Beach concerts with Thai and international artists;
- Wedding Festival for couples worldwide — with legal marriage registration;
- Love Exhibition at Central Festival — interactive installations, art pieces, stories from couples in 20 countries;
- Eco-Romance: couples planting mangrove trees together as a symbol of lasting connection with nature.
"We no longer compete in kissing endurance," said Pattaya Mayor Somkhund Suksumphang. "We’re creating space for real emotions, family, and respect for the environment."
Was There a Kissing Record?
Yes, in 2011, Pattaya entered the Guinness World Records. The couple Tiranarat kissed for 58 hours and 35 minutes at Royal Garden Plaza. This achievement remains one of the most unusual in Thai tourism history.
However, no similar attempt has been repeated since — due to ethical concerns, health risks, and low tourism value.
Records 2025: Sport & Ecology
Today, Pattaya sets records in other categories:
1. Largest Beach Yoga Class
- Date: February 10, 2025;
- Participants: 3,842 people on Jomtien Beach;
- Goal: promoting healthy lifestyles.
2. Planting 10,000 Mangrove Trees in One Day
- Date: January 22, 2025;
- Participants: tourists, students, volunteers;
- Verified by: TAT and Ministry of Natural Resources.
3. Longest Eco-Friendly Carpet from Recycled Materials
- Length: 1.2 km;
- Material: recycled bottles and fabric;
- Location: Walking Street — during the "Clean City" festival.
Hula Hoop Record: Past & Future
In 2011, at Thammasat University Stadium, a record was indeed set — 4,483 people spun hula hoops simultaneously. The previous record belonged to Taiwan (2,997 people).
In 2025, such mass events are held as active lifestyle festivals, but no longer aim for Guinness records. For example, the Pattaya Sports Festival includes:
- Mass Pilates and Zumba sessions;
- Family relay races;
- Tai boxing masterclasses for children.
Outlook 2025–2026
Expected:
- Application to join UNESCO Creative Cities Network (category: Event Tourism);
- Development of eco-festivals instead of flashy but impractical records;
- Integration of digital technologies — AR installations, NFT certificates for event participants;
- Growth in families and mature tourists, not just youth.
"We want Pattaya to be associated not just with beaches, but with deep experiences," said a TAT representative. "Love, health, nature — that’s what makes the city truly attractive."
