In 2025, Thailand has moved beyond tablet distribution — a model from 2013 that faced major technical and logistical challenges. Instead, the country is implementing an ambitious program called 'Smart School Transformation', aimed at creating digital, sustainable, and inclusive educational ecosystems.
According to the Ministry of Education (MOE) and DEPA, today over 98% of public schools are connected to high-speed internet, and all teachers and students have access to unified platforms DLTV Plus and TeacherPlus.
What Replaced the Tablets?
The current system includes:
- Cloud-based classrooms: all materials, assignments, and grades are digital;
- Personalized learning: AI platforms adapt curricula to each student’s level;
- Unified digital student profile: tracks progress from Grade 1 to 12;
- Robotics & STEM labs: in every secondary school across regions.
Equipment Support & Repair
Instead of the 114 service centers from 2013, a modern system operates:
- Regional IT Hubs: 76 technical support centers nationwide;
- Online requests via DLTV Support app: diagnostics and repair within 3–5 days;
- Warranty replacement: device replaced within 7 working days for manufacturing defects;
- School-level repairs: IT mentors fix software and basic hardware issues.
Hardware is procured under the Thailand EdTech Ready standard, ensuring compatibility and longevity.
Digital Literacy for Teachers
A key success factor is teacher training:
- Mandatory digital skills courses: 120 hours/year for all teachers;
- TeacherPlus platform: lesson templates, expert chats, teaching methods;
- 'Digital Teacher' certification: required for career advancement;
- IT Mentors: one per 5 schools.
Accessibility & Inclusion
The program reaches everyone:
- Free devices: Chromebooks or tablets for low-income students;
- Offline mode: content available without internet;
- Support for children with special needs: sign language, text-to-speech AI, adapted interfaces;
- Mobile classrooms: for remote and mountainous villages.
Artificial Intelligence in Learning
Since 2024, AI assistants have been deployed:
- Homework grading in math and language;
- Learning path recommendations;
- Early detection of learning gaps and emotional stress;
- Virtual tutors in Thai, English, Khmer.
Results 2024–2025
In one year:
- Student digital literacy rate rose to 87%;
- 94% of teachers use digital tools daily;
- Urban-rural education gap reduced by 40%;
- Parent satisfaction: 91%.
Outlook 2025–2030
Expected:
- Full transition to cloud-based education by 2027;
- Launch of National AI Tutor (AI Tutor TH);
- Integration of metaverse for immersive learning;
- International recognition of Thailand’s digital education model.
"We’re not just giving out tablets — we’re transforming the very nature of learning," said Education Minister Trirat Nakkhoon. "The future lies in smart, flexible, and human-centered schools."
