In 2025, Thai airports offer mobile check-in, biometrics & online services. AOT & Thai PBS data.

In 2025, passing through Thai airports has become faster, easier, and fully digital. While printed tickets were once used for self-check-in, this practice has nearly disappeared. Instead, mobile apps, QR codes, biometric terminals, and contactless services are now standard.

According to Airports of Thailand (AOT), which operates the country’s main international hubs (Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, U-Tapao), over 94% of passengers use digital check-in methods. This is especially crucial during holidays, when tourist traffic exceeds 300,000 people per day.

How to Check In in 2025?

Several modern options are available:

1. Airline Mobile App

  • Download the app (Thai Airways, Bangkok Airways, VietJet, AirAsia, etc.);
  • Check in online 24–48 hours before departure;
  • Receive an electronic boarding pass with QR code;
  • Use it at checkpoints and boarding gates.

2. Self-Service Kiosks

  • Available at Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket;
  • Support in English, Thai, Chinese, Russian;
  • Print baggage tags or use phone screen QR code.

3. Biometric Check-In (Face ID)

  • Available at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) and Phuket International (HKT);
  • Passenger scans face once — system recognizes them at all stages: check-in, security, boarding;
  • No need to show passport or ticket — just look into the camera.

4. Online Check-In via Website

  • On the airline’s official website;
  • Boarding pass sent to email or saved in Google Wallet / Apple Wallet.

What About Baggage?

If checking luggage:

  • Print tag at home or get it at kiosk;
  • Drop bag at Bag Drop counter — no agent needed;
  • Process takes less than 2 minutes.

Where Is This Available?

Digital check-in is live at all major airports:

  • Suvarnabhumi (BKK): 120 kiosks, Face ID, AOT app;
  • Don Mueang (DMK): optimized for low-cost carriers — AirAsia, Nok Air;
  • Phuket (HKT): biometrics, multilingual kiosks;
  • U-Tapao (UTP): new international hub — fully digital process.

Tips for Passengers

  • Never rely on a printed ticket — it may not be accepted;
  • Ensure your phone battery is charged and QR code is visible;
  • Add boarding pass to digital wallet (Apple/Google Wallet);
  • Check flight status via airport or airline app.

Outlook 2025–2030

Expected:

  • Full transition to biometric passports and digital IDs;
  • Integration of metaverse for virtual terminal navigation;
  • Development of smart suitcases with GPS and autonomous delivery;
  • Global recognition of Thai airports as among the most technologically advanced in the world.

"We’re no longer just transporting people. We’re creating a seamless travel experience," said AOT CEO Sathchon Sommonong. "The future starts today."
