In October 2025, Thailand is in the rainy season. No typhoon Gaemi. TMD & RID data.

In October 2025, Thailand is in the middle of the rainy season, which runs from May to October. During this period, the country regularly experiences short heavy rains, localized flooding, and high humidity. However, there is no typhoon Gaemi, and none is approaching the country.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), weather conditions in October are characterized by:

  • Daily rains: mostly evening or night, lasting 1–3 hours;
  • Temperature: 26–34°C, humidity 75–90%;
  • Precipitation: above average in northeastern provinces (Isan), especially Ubon Ratchathani and Nakhon Ratchasima;
  • Flood risk: local, mainly in lowlands and poorly drained areas.

Where Are Floods Possible?

According to the Royal Irrigation Department (RID), higher risks exist in:

  • Bangkok: Min Buri, Thong Sang, parts of Pratunam;
  • Pathum Thani Province: lowland zones along the Chao Phraya River;
  • Northeast (Isan): Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon — due to intense rainfall;
  • Central Thailand: Lop Buri, Saraburi — during heavy downpours.

However, no large-scale floods like in 2011 are forecasted.

How Do Reservoirs Work?

As of October 15, 2025, key dam levels are:

  • Pasak Jolasid (Lop Buri): 62% of capacity;
  • Bhumibol (Tak): 58%;
  • Sirikit (Uttaradit): 60%;
  • Khlong Thawi Watthana (Bangkok): used for flow regulation, not a major reservoir.

All dams are within safe limits. Water release is controlled.

Precautions for Tourists & Residents

To avoid issues during rainy season:

  • Monitor the official TMD website and TMD Weather app;
  • Avoid traveling to lowlands during heavy rain;
  • Don’t park cars in flood-prone areas;
  • Carry waterproof shoes and bags;
  • Check flight schedules — delays possible at airports.

Myths About 'Typhoons in Thailand'

Common misconceptions:

  • Tropical depression: weak system, causes rain;
  • Tropical storm: may affect weather, rarely hits Thailand directly;
  • Typhoon: powerful hurricane that almost never reaches Thailand.

Most 'threats' originate in neighboring countries but weaken before reaching Thailand.

Outlook: November–December 2025

Expected:

  • Gradual rain reduction by late October;
  • Start of cool season in November — comfortable 24–30°C;
  • Tourist influx rising — high season begins in December;
  • Global recognition of Thailand’s early warning system as one of Southeast Asia’s best.

"Thailand is better prepared for the rainy season than ever before," said TMD Director Chattchai Pungcharoen. "We no longer fear water. We control it."
