In 2025, Thailand leads in ICT in education. Cloud platforms, AI, digital literacy. MOE & UNESCO data.

In June 2025, Bangkok hosted the annual Asia-Pacific Forum on ICT in Education, organized under the auspices of UNESCO and the Ministry of Education of Thailand. The event brought together education ministers, EdTech experts, and international organization representatives from over 30 countries across the region.

The forum served as a platform to discuss strategies for sustainable, inclusive, and technology-driven education in the age of artificial intelligence. Thailand presented its successful experience as one of the region’s leaders in the digital transformation of schools and universities.

From Tablets to Ecosystem: Thailand’s New Model

If in 2013 Thailand gained attention for its tablet distribution program, today it showcases a mature system:

  • 98% of public schools connected to high-speed internet;
  • Unified cloud platform DLTV Plus — access to all learning materials and assignments;
  • AI assistants support teachers in grading and curriculum adaptation;
  • Digital student profiles track progress from Grade 1 to 12.

The 'Smart School of the Future' program now covers over 25,000 schools nationwide.

Teacher Training: The Key to Success

Thailand has prioritized educators:

  • Mandatory digital literacy courses — 120 hours/year for all teachers;
  • TeacherPlus platform — teaching methods, templates, expert chats;
  • IT mentors — one per 5 schools;
  • 'Digital Teacher' certification — required for career advancement.

Accessibility & Inclusion

The system works for everyone:

  • Free devices (Chromebook or tablet) for low-income families;
  • Offline mode — learning without internet;
  • Support for children with disabilities: sign language, text-to-speech AI, adapted interfaces;
  • Mobile IT classrooms — for remote and mountainous villages.

UNESCO’s Role & International Recognition

At the forum, UNESCO highly praised Thailand’s model:

  • Named a best practice in the Asia-Pacific region;
  • Included in the UNESCO Global EdTech Catalogue;
  • Designated a regional center of excellence for digital education.

"Thailand has shown how to scale digital education while respecting national context," said Director of UNESCO Bangkok Anna Sofia Montes.

Outlook 2025–2030

Expected:

  • Full transition to cloud-based education by 2027;
  • Launch of National AI Tutor (AI Tutor TH);
  • Development of metaverse learning (VR/AR);
  • Export of Thailand’s model to Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam.

"We’re not just giving technology — we’re changing the culture of learning," said Education Minister Trirat Nakkhoon. "The future lies in smart, flexible, and human-centered schools."
