How Russian speakers in Thailand commemorate Victory Day 2025. Data from the Russian Embassy.

In 2025, May 9 — Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War remains one of the most significant dates for over 30,000 Russian-speaking residents of Thailand. Despite the distance from the homeland, the community preserves the memory of their ancestors' heroism through traditional events, flower-laying ceremonies, and the "Immortal Regiment" march.

According to the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Thailand, official and public events are held annually in Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket, and Hua Hin. In 2024, more than 3,200 people participated in these events.

Where and How Are Events Held in 2025?

  • Bangkok: laying flowers at the memorial plaque to Heroes of the Soviet Union near the Embassy;
  • Pattaya: 'Immortal Regiment' march on Walking Street, starting at 4 PM;
  • Phuket: memorial service at the Russian Orthodox Church, classical music concert;
  • Hua Hin: veterans' gathering, screening of 'They Fought for Their Country'.

The 'Immortal Regiment' in Thailand

Every year, thousands take to the streets with portraits of relatives — soldiers, partisans, home front workers. In 2025, the event will feature:

  • In-person march: in major cities with participant registration;
  • Live stream: broadcast on YouTube and Telegram;
  • Digital 'Immortal Regiment': upload photos to polkrf.ru.

Role of the Embassy & Cultural Centers

  • Russian Embassy: organizes ceremonies, speeches, diplomatic reception;
  • Russian Cultural Center: lectures, exhibitions, children's art contests;
  • Schools with Russian language: memory lessons, poetry readings, wartime songs.

What Does History Say?

During WWII, Thailand declared war on the US and UK (1942), but internal resistance (Seri Thai movement) cooperated with the Allies. After the war, Thailand joined the UN without penalties. Today, the country seeks historical reconciliation and dialogue.

Why Is It Important to Remember?

  • Memory: every third CIS citizen lost a relative in the war;
  • Identity: passing history to children is the foundation of culture;
  • Peace: May 9 is a reminder of the cost of war and the strength of peace.

Outlook 2025–2030

Expected:

  • Growth in young participants of the Immortal Regiment in Thailand;
  • Development of online archives of family stories;
  • Creation of a war victims memorial in a Pattaya park;
  • International recognition of compatriots’ role in preserving historical memory abroad.

"As long as we remember — we are alive," said Ambassador of Russia to Thailand Nikolay Krasilnikov. "May 9 is not politics. It’s our shared pain, our pride, our eternal gratitude to those who gave us peace."
